Watch: Dilshan Madushanka sent Netherlands veteran Wesley Barresi’s middle stump cartwheeling with a big, booming in-swinger to the right-hander in the World Cup Qualifier Final today (July 09).

Netherlands won the toss and elected to field in the World Cup Qualifier Final at the Harare Sports Club. Both teams rested a few of their first-choice players having already secured qualification for the World Cup on account of finishing in the top two in the Super Six of the Qualifier.

Sri Lanka got off a decent start and were 180-3 at one stage after 35.3 overs. However, they collapsed from there, adding just 53 more runs for seven wickets as they finished on 233.

Netherlands would have fancied themselves looking at the target at the halfway mark. They even got off to a steady start before left-arm seamer Madushanka wreaked havoc.

He first got rid of left-handed Vikramjit Singh who handed an easy catch to cover. Barresi came in at three and was tied down by Madushanka. On the fourth ball of the seventh over, he stepped out of his crease and looked to smash Madushanka over the leg side.

The late in-swing that is typical of a left-arm seamer against a right-hand batter got the better of Barresi as he ended up playing completely down the wrong line. The ball crashed into middle stump, sending it somersaulting.

The wicket left Netherlands in a spot of bother at 31-2. Madushanka then got another wicket in the ninth over of the innings, that of Noah Croes to leave the Dutch reeling at 39-4.
