Bumrah has been out of action for 10 months now following the recurrence of a back injury he suffered during the T20I series against Australia in September 2022.
With the 2022 T20 World Cup approaching, India had recalled Bumrah for the T20Is against Australia last September. The hurried move hurt India big as Bumrah suffered a recurrence of his back injury and was subsequently ruled out of the T20 World Cup in Australia.
In fact, his injury was so severe, as almost all back injuries are, that he needed to get surgery which ruled him out of IPL 2023 as well as the World Test Championship Final against Australia.

With the all-important World Cup approaching, the Indian management and fans desperately want to see Bumrah back in action for the national team as soon as possible.
There was a recent report in The India Express that mentioned that Bumrah was showing promising signs with how he is going about his recovery and rehabilitation and might not be far away from a national comeback.
According to the report, Bumrah is expected to be back in the squad for India’s T20I series against Ireland in August.
To further raise the hopes of Indian fans, a video of Bumrah bowling full tilt in the nets has surfaced on social media. Although the video is shot from a bird’s eye view, Bumrah can be seen hopping in – as he does from a full run-up.
While the desperation for his comeback is understandable, he is, after all, the most complete fast bowler India has in all formats. The management will also be looking to make sure that this time they don’t rush him in.
With two and a half months to go for the World Cup, there is still time to ease him back into international cricket. A fully fit and firing Bumrah at the World Cup will massively raise India’s chances.
