The headline inclusion is that of 18-year-old Alice Capsey who has been named in the fifteen despite the batting all-rounder suffering from a broken collar bone sustained during England’s tour of the West Indies in December.
Fast bowler Kate Cross has also been included in the squad having not represented England in a T20I since December 2019.
The team will be led by coach Jon Lewis who is taking charge of his first major tournament as head coach of the England women’s team having taken over from Australian Lisa Keightley in November.
England’s campaign begins on February 11 with a match against West Indies, who they recently whitewashed when touring the country in December. Their group also includes India, Pakistan and Ireland.
Heather Knight will captain the side with regulars Nat Sciver, Amy Jones, Sophie Ecclestone, Katherine Brunt and Danny Wyatt all included. Sophia Dunkley and Lauren Bell have also made the squad with Issy Wong and Dani Gibson named as the travelling reserves.
Upon announcing the squad, coach Jon Lewis said, “It’s an honour for me to lead a team into a World Cup and I know that we will be giving it everything we have got, not only to show everyone who we are as a team and how we want to play, but also to keep inspiring people to play the game we all love so much.”
