Australia had started to motor after a slow start against England. Ash Gardner had hit four boundaries and was on 35 in the 14th over, pushing her side up near to three figures. Sciver-Brunt had already dismissed Beth Mooney in the previous over of her spell, and had conceded just three singles off the first four balls of her next over.
She came into bowl the fifth delivery, Gardner advancing down the pitch before the ball had left Sciver-Brunt’s hand. Seeing her coming, Sciver-Brunt adjusted her length and banged the ball in well inside her half of the pitch. Gardner still attempted to flay the ball, well above her head height, away behind square but got a feather top edge on it.
Jones, who hadn’t had to move from her position directly behind the stumps, took the ball cleanly in front of her face, and whipped the bails off with Gardner still several yards down the wicket. There was no dispute Gardner was out, the only slight confusion being the mode of dismissal. There did indeed prove to be a slight edge on the ball, and it went down as caught, despite Jones leaving no chances.
