When it comes to capturing the concluding moments of a thrilling game of cricket, there’s no one better than Ian Bishop to have on the microphone.

The grand voice of cricket commentary, once again, nailed the final moments of a gripping game – the West Indies-Pakistan Test at Sabina Park, which is being hailed as one of the greatest Tests of all time. When Kemar Roach, an unlikely batting hero, drilled Hasan Ali through the covers to bring an end to a remarkable game, Bishop was rightfully stationed in the commentary panel, calling the shots as West Indies players celebrated in ecstasy.

To put things in perspective, West Indies were in dire straits when Roach walked in, having lost seven wickets for 114 runs, still far from their target of 168. Along with Jomel Warrican and then Jayden Seales, Roach pushed West Indies towards the target, riding through a tense phase with Pakistan’s fielders squandering crucial chances.

As Roach hit the winning runs, Bishop’s voice reverberated through television screens around the world. “The West Indies have won…”, Bishop roared, “in the most remarkable victory for the student and teacher, Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales, take a bow!”

As Pakistan’s dejected players consoled each other, Bishop captured the scene in typically eloquent fashion: “Pakistan have fought valiantly; this has been one of the great spectacles of Test match cricket.”

Along with Roach was his understudy Jayden Seales, who earlier in the day, claimed a crucial five-for, becoming the first teenager from West Indies to prise out five wickets in a Test innings. Bishop, a fiery quick during his playing days, couldn’t stop short of praising the youngster.

“Jayden Seales, on the day he picked his first five-wicket haul, the first teenager to do it for the West Indies, and he does a job with the bat from the man who is teaching him everything he needs to know…,” said Bishop, adding another sequence to his collection of memorable commentary bits.
