Having been put into bat after losing the toss, India got off to a brilliant start in the first session with Rohit and Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring at a quick rate. By Lunch, India had raced off to 121-0, looking set for another huge first innings total.
Post-lunch, however, wickets started tumbling as West Indies got back into the game. Jaiswal was the first to go, caught at point driving loosely outside off. Shubman Gill continued his barren run in Test cricket as he edged one behind to the wicketkeeper.
Rohit was joined by Virat Kohli at the crease, but the partnership didn’t last long as the opener became the third Indian wicket to fall, this time off a spinner.

Warrican had extracted some purchase from the surface in the first session itself, and he used it to good effect in the second, luring Rohit forward with his fuller length and then beating his outside edge to rattle his off-stump, leaving India in a spot of bother at 155-3. “A real beauty from Warrican”, said the commentator on air describing the delivery.
Rohit was looking well set and comfortable at the crease, batting on 80 and approaching a second consecutive Test century. It wasn’t meant to be though, as the Indian captain had to make the long walk back. Ajinkya Rahane then fell with the team score reading 182-4. What started as a bit of a hiccup after lunch, turned into a full-blown collapse with India losing four wickets in the space of 43 runs.
