West Indies won the toss and elected to field first in the second ODI after having lost the first game comprehensively. India openers Shubman Gill and Kishan took the visitors off to a good start.
Kishan was the dominating partner, reaching his fifty in the 17th over at nearly run-a-ball, while Gill was more sedate, biding his time before a rush of blood forced him to go over the top, only to find the long off fielder to hand Gudakesh Motie and the hosts the first wicket of the innings at the score of 90.

Kishan followed in the very next over as he tried to cut a Romario Shepherd short ball, but couldn’t keep it down. An alert and agile Athanaze leapt to his right at point and pouched the catch with both hands. The ball was travelling as Kishan had middled the cut shot, but Athanaze was up to the task, providing West Indies with their second wicket of the game.
It led to a collapse of sorts, as India stumbled from 90-0 to 95-2 and then 148-7, with Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja, all failing to cross 25. Shepherd was the destroyer-in-chief, as he picked the wickets of each of the three left-handers, Kishan, Axar, and Jadeja, all with short deliveries to leave India reeling.
