West Indies and England have a cherished and long cricketing history. Test cricket action between the two sides will resume this month, with the two sides contesting a three-Test series. The series will be played for the inaugural Richards-Botham Trophy. Previously, the two sides used to fight it out for the Wisden Trophy.
While the West Indies have faced a decline in their cricketing fortunes since the mid-90s, England haven’t found much success on the West Indies soil over the fifty years. Their only Test series win since 1967/68 came in 2003/04 when Michael Vaughan’s men outplayed a weak West Indies side.
Talking of the present, both teams haven’t been at their best over the last 12 months or so. West Indies lost Test series to South Africa (0-2), drew with Pakistan (1-1), and lost to Sri Lanka away (0-2). Meanwhile England have lost to India away (1-3), lost to New Zealand (0-1), trail India at home (1-2), and were crushed in the Ashes (0-4).
It will interesting to see how Joe Root’s new-look England copes up with the challenge of Kraigg Brathwaite’s men.
