England travel to West Indies for a five-match T20I series, with Sam Billings the only member of the recent Ashes squad being considered for selection. The semi-finalists of the Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 will also be without the services of Brydon Carse, Sam Curran, Tom Curran, Lewis Gregory, Jofra Archer, David Willey and Olly Stone due to injuries. The side have called up Tom Banton, George Garton, David Payne, Phil Salt and Saqib Mahmood, all additions from England’s T20 World Cup squad.
The inclusion of Banton, in particular, is a notable show of faith with the top-order batter averaging 22.77 in T20s since the start of 2019. However, the absence of Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow possibly pushed the odds in his favour.
West Indies, on the other hand, will be without Chris Gayle and Andre Russell, but they have plenty of experience in the form of Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, Shai Hope and Darren Bravo.
The hosts will be without Evin Lewis and Anderson Phillip due to recent Covid-19 positive tests, while Obed McCoy misses the cut as he is undergoing rehab on his shin injury.
