England were 0-1 down in the three-match series when they came into the second ODI. They opted to bowl at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
England have backed Sam Curran despite his ordinary form. Across 12 ODIs in 2023, he had only 14 wickets at 39.07 while going at 6.73 an over. In the first match of the series, he had conceded 98 as Shai Hope hit him for three sixes in four balls to complete the match.
Here, he opened bowling again, and did reasonably well with the new ball. He had Keacy Carty caught in his third over. In his fourth, Hope ran a single off the first ball.
Bowling from over the wicket, Curran now pitched the ball on a good length. It deviated slightly away from the right-handed Brandon King to take the edge, and Zak Crawley held his second catch of the match.
Four balls later, Curran trapped Shimron Hetmyer leg-before to leave the West Indies reeling at 23-4. Hope (68) and Sherfane Rutherford (63) then added 129, but England were eventually bowled out for 202. Curran finished with 3-33, Liam Livingstone with 3-29, and Rehan Ahmed with 2-40.
England completed the chase inside 33 overs with six wickets in hand.
