Watch: Shadab Khan comically swings bat into own stumps after misreading slower-ball bouncer

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Watch: Shadab Khan was dismissed in comical fashion in the final Afghanistan-Pakistan T20I today (March 27), swinging his bat into his own stumps after being deceived by a slower-ball bouncer to be out hit wicket.

The unfortunate dismissal brought to an end a sparky knock, with the stand-in skipper contributing a 17-ball 28 in Pakistan’s most complete batting performance of the series.

The leggie came out at 123-5, Pakistan needing a big finish after they subsided to 92-9 and 130-6 in the first two games of the series. He obliged with five boundaries in his impactful innings, boosting his side to an imposing score.

However, the end was somewhat farcical. Fareed Ahmad bowled a slower bouncer which Shadab failed to read, getting hit on the glove as he swung too early. Shadab was so bamboozled that his bat continued to swing in its follow-through, knocking the bails off his own stumps.

It’s Pakistan’s second hit-wicket dismissal of the series, with Naseem Shah also falling in that fashion in the opening game.
