Watch: Sam Curran Bowls Tim David With PinPoint Leg Stump Yorker In Perfectly Executed Plan
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: Sam Curran bowled Tim David with a beautifully executed leg-stump yorker at a pivotal moment in England’s series-sealing T20I win against Australia in Canberra.

The ball was perfectly pitched by Curran, with David walking across his stumps and looking to flick the ball into the leg side off his pads. Immediately upon seeing David’s stump bent backwards, Curran ran off in celebration pointing towards Jos Buttler, indicating that the England captain had a hand in the planning behind the dismissal. It was reminiscent of Curran’s dismissal of Andre Russell in an IPL last year, where Curran had also changed the field to suggest an off-side line only to surprise the batter with a ball honed in on leg.

The wicket came at a crucial point in the game with Australia needing 34 runs from 16 remaining deliveries, and threatening to chase down the 179 run target England had set them. Australia’s big finisher, David, was motoring having scored 40 off 22 balls before he fell to Curran’s left-arm pace. He had crunched Chris Jordan for a massive six over long-on in the previous over.

Curran’s superb over, which only conceded three runs along with the wicket of David, was a turning-point for the result of the match. England went on to win by eight runs, with Matthew Wade and Pat Cummins unable to pick up where David left off.

The result means England take victory in the three match T20I series 2-0 ahead of the final match in Canberra on Friday.
