Watch: Hassan Ali pulls off ‘absolutely stunning’ boundary relay catch, Tom Curran left agape in awe

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Watch: Hassan Ali helped reel in an extraordinary boundary catch, throwing the ball back into play as he fell over the rope to the waiting Rassie van der Dussen to dismiss Irfan Khan.

He leapt to help effect a spectacular dismissal off the bowling of Tom Curran, seeing off the Karachi Kings No.6 for a 20-ball 30.

Islamabad United began well in today’s PSL clash, reducing their opponents to 78-4 early on. However, while wickets tumbled, Islamabad United continued to attack, and their approach brought rewards as Imad Wasim and Khan put up a big partnership.

They had put on 99 runs in just under 10 overs when Hassan struck. Initially, Danny Morrison on commentary thought the ball had gone for six, with Khan making good contact and Hassan sprawled on the ground over the boundary rope.

However, replays revealed the full extent of Hassan’s stunner. He had jumped, grasped the ball, landed, and thrown the ball back into play as he realised his momentum was taking him over the rope. What’s more, his throw was well-directed, despite van der Dussen seemingly being in Hassan’s blindspot, and all the South Africa had to do to get his name in the scorebook was catch the simplest of chances.

Curran was stunned, as was everyone else.
