Thirty-six of the 38 teams featured in the 18 matches of Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022 on November 23, 2022 – here is a list of who won, and who qualified.

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022/23: Group A (in Delhi)

The Gujarat top four hardly broke a sweat as they chased down 266 against Himachal Pradesh. Hyderabad and Chandigarh won comfortably too. However, at the Palam B Ground, Uttar Pradesh did well to restrict Saurashtra to 218-9 before being reduced to 64-5 against Jaydev Unadkat (2-35) and Parth Bhut (3-64). Akshdeep Nath (89*) and Saurabh Kumar (63) then added 147 before Bhut struck again. In the end, UP scraped through by two wickets.

The defeat left Saurashtra (net run rate +1.737) and Uttar Pradesh (+0.604), Hyderabad (+0.513) and Chandigarh (-0.031) on 20 points apiece.

Hyderabad 306-5 in 50 overs beat Chandigarh 196 in 46.3 overs by 110 runs. Tripura 346-6 in 50 overs beat Manipur 106 in 28 overs by 240 runs. Himachal Pradesh 265 in 49.2 overs lost to Gujarat 270-2 in 47.3 overs by 8 wickets with 15 balls to spare. Saurashtra 218-9 in 50 overs lost to Uttar Pradesh 219-8 in 47.4 overs by 2 wickets with 14 balls to spare.

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022/23: Group B (in Kolkata)

Assam’s amazing run in the tournament continued as they beat Delhi by 25 runs to finish second in the group and qualify for the pre-quarter-finals. After Rishav Das’ 93 took Assam to 250, Delhi were comfortably placed at 113-3. Then they collapsed to 225 as Himmat Singh (84) stood alone amidst the ruins. Elsewhere, Ronit More (3-35) and Krishnappa Gowtham (3-36) helped Karnataka beat Rajasthan easily.

Meghalaya won comfortably as well, but Vidarbha were pushed hard by Jharkhand. After Faiz Fazal’s 120 took Vidarbha to 297-3, Saurabh Tiwary (138*) lifted Jharkhand from 42-4. In the end, they fell short by nine runs.

Assam 250 in 49.4 overs beat Delhi 225 in 49 overs by 25 runs. Meghalaya 226-9 in 50 overs beat Sikkim 167 in 45.2 overs by 59 runs. Karnataka 208 in 48.4 overs beat Rajasthan 148 in 41.1 overs by 60 runs. Vidarbha 297-3 in 50 overs beat Jharkhand 288-6 in 50 overs by 9 runs.

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022: Group C (in Bengaluru)

Inclement Bengaluru weather led to abandonment of two matches, but the same rain led to a tie as per the VJD Method in Alur. After Snehal Kauthankar (104) took Goa to 261-9, Haryana were 154-5 when no more play was possible. The abandonment of Tamil Nadu’s match, against Kerala, meant that N. Jagadeesan’s world record run of List A hundreds ended on a streak of five: he made 23 not out from 21 balls.

Ahead of the day’s play, Kerala and Andhra were both tied at second place, behind Tamil Nadu. While Kerala got two points from the abandoned match to earn a pre-quarter-final berth, Andhra lost to Chhattisgarh by eight wickets.

Kerala 287-8 in 50 overs v Tamil Nadu 43-1 in 7 overs (no result). Arunachal Pradesh 170 in 48.4 overs beat Bihar 56-2 in 13.5 overs (no result). Goa 261-9 in 50 overs tied with Haryana 154-5 in 23 overs (VJD Method). Andhra 144 in 42.3 overs lost to Chhattisgarh 147-2 in 26.3 overs by 8 wickets with 141 balls to spare.

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022: Group D (in Mumbai)

All three matches in Group D were one-sided affairs, but the most spectacular of them was Baroda’s 17.1-over capitulation against Madhya Pradesh. No Baroda batter reached double figures against Avesh Khan (6-37) and Kuldeep Sen (2-7). Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir occupied the top two spots.

Madhya Pradesh 349-7 in 50 overs beat Baroda 59 in 17.1 overs by 290 runs. Nagaland 145 in 48.5 overs lost to Punjab 146-4 in 29.3 overs by 6 wickets with 123 balls to spare. Uttarakhand 251-6 in 50 overs lost to Jammu & Kashmir 257-1 in 42.2 overs by 9 wickets with 46 balls to spare.

Vijay Hazare Trophy 2022: Group E (in Ranchi)

Maharashtra and Services won their matches with ease. Maharashtra’s win, shepherded by Ankit Bawne’s unbeaten 184, also helped them secure top spot in the group. That meant that Mumbai had to beat Services to pip Bengal to qualify. After Pratham Singh (108) took Railways to 337-5, Prithvi Shaw (51), Ajinkya Rahane (88), Sarfaraz Khan (117), and Shams Mulani (46*) helped them win with nine balls in hand.

Maharashtra 379-7 in 50 overs beat Puducherry 274-7 in 50 overs by 105 runs. Services 318-6 in 50 overs beat Mizoram 197-8 in 50 overs by 121 runs. Railways 337-5 in 50 overs lost to Mumbai 338-5 in 48.3 overs by 5 wickets with 9 balls to spare.
