Pakistan pacers breathed fire while defending 285 against their rivals, courtesy of wrecker-in-chief Ubaid Shah, with able support from their beanpole Mohammad Zeeshan, who took 3-17 off his five overs.

After Amir Hassan sent Afghanistan opener Wafiullah Stanikzai Tarakhil packing for a duck in the first over of their run-chase, Shah struck again in the second over, castling No.3 batter Jamshid Zadran. Shah struck again in the tenth over, scalping Hassan Eisakhil for 19 off 29 balls to dismantle the top order.

Shah’s most notable dismissal was the wicket of Momand. After the fast-bowling onslaught reduced Afghanistan to 95-6 after 23 overs, he came to bowl his sixth over. On the third ball, he pitched one up full and on off, nipping one back. Momand was struck in his crease and failed to react in time, allowing the ball to shatter his stumps. The pacer was ecstatic as he celebrated with his teammates.

An over later, he dismissed Allah Ghazanfar for 2 (6) and finished with figures of 4-26 off his seven. Afghanistan’s innings ended at 103 after the final wicket of Khalil Ahmed fell due to a runout. Pakistan won the match by 181 runs.
