Watch: Lack of bounce leaves Musheer Khan stunned as India falter in U19 WC final run-chase

Musheer Khan bowled in U19 World Cup final

Watch: Musheer Khan, brother of Sarfaraz Khan and the second-highest run-getter in the 2024 U19 World Cup, chopped on to a ball that kept low in the final against Australia as India succumbed in another knockout game.

Chasing 254 to defend their crown, India started poorly against Australia, losing opener Arshin Kulkarni in the third over for three. The first wicket brought Musheer Khan to the crease.

In scintillating form throughout the tournament, having already scored two centuries, a lot was riding on his shoulders as he built a partnership with Adarsh Singh.

Musheer survived a run out scare where he started walking off after a direct hit before replays confirmed that he had just about made his ground. However, that was all the luck he was going to have on his side.

On the second ball of the 13th over, bowled by Mahli Beardman, Musheer was undone by pace and a lack of bounce. Beardman banged the ball in on a back of good length. Musheer hanged back waiting in anticipation for the ball to rise, but it never did, catching the bottom-edge of his bat and crashing into his stumps.

The lack of bounce left Musheer with a helpless look on his face as he stood there, stumps scattered, trying to process what had just happened.

India were never able to recover from the blow as Beardman and off-spinner Raf MacMillan took out the Indian middle order one by one, leaving them reeling at 122-8, less than halfway through to the target.

Musheer finished the 2024 Under-19 World Cup with 360 runs at an average of 60, behind only his captain Uday Saharan, who finished with 397 runs at 56.71.
