Australia won the toss and elected to bat first in the 2024 Under-19 World Cup final in Benoni. Under overcast skies, India started well with the ball.

Raj Limbani, the right-arm seamer who has been one of the Indian bowling stars of the tournament, provided the defending champions an early breakthrough, getting rid of the Australian opener Konstas.

Having made a name for himself with his natural inswing to the right-hander, Limbani produced another peach up front to set off the U19 World Cup final. A length ball  starting well outside off drew Konstas across before the big, hooping inswing cut him in half, going through his bat and pad and crashing into the top of his middle stump.

Konstas was dismissed for a duck. The Australian middle order then came good, with as many as five batters going past 20, but none crossing 60. Australia finished with a competitive total of 253-7, the highest total in an U19 World Cup final.

Limbani took two more wickets, of Ryan Hicks and Charlie Anderson, registering figures of 3-38 from his 10 overs, the best among all Indian bowlers in the final.

With this spell, the 19-year-old finished with 11 wickets in the tournament at an average of 16.54.
