Afghanistan have named a 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. They have named Rashid Khan as captain.

Afghanistan named their squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rashid Khan, named captain, is one of several high-quality all-rounders in the side. While Mohammad Nabi is the biggest name among them, the squad also boasts of senior cricketers Gulbadin Naib and Karim Janat as well as the young Azmatullah Omarzai, who often bowls pace inside the powerplay and bats in the top order.

Left-arm spinner Nangyal Kharoti, who turned 20 less than a week ago, and Fareed Ahmad round off the list of multi-specialist cricketers. Afghanistan’s many all-rounders lend depth to both departments, making the unit look formidable.

Along with Rashid, Nabi, and Omarzai, all of whom are certain to play, the squad also boasts of outstanding bowlers in seamers Naveen-ul-Haq and Fazalhaq Farooqi, and spinners Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmad.

In wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran, they gave a dangerous opening pair, while Najibullah Zadran will add depth to the batting. Mohammad Ishaq, part of the Afghanistan squad in the 2020 and 2022 Under-19 World Cups, has been named the backup keeper.

Hazratullah Zazai did not make the cut, but he is one of the three reserves, along with Sediq Atal and Saleem Safi. There was no place for Hashmatullah Shahidi, who led Afghanistan at the 2023 World Cup, even among the reserves.
