Phillips who had the backing of wrestler John Cena ahead of the edition, lived up to his billing, taking a grab that is being touted as a catch of the tournament contender. The second ball of the ninth over by Mitchell Santner was a slower delivery outside the off stump, which was chipped in the air by Stoinis towards cover. With no fielder around, Stoinis was expected to be safe, but Phillips had other ideas.
The Kiwi batter ran across from deep, threw both hands at the ball and managed to latch on to an absolute stunner, leaving the commentators in awe.
New Zealand scored 200-3 in their 20 overs and went on to defeat Australia by 89 runs.
