Watch: Shakib Al Hasan was given out in controversial circumstances during Bangladesh’s World Cup defeat against Pakistan, with a spike on UltraEdge overlooked as an lbw appeal was upheld.
Pakistan and Bangladesh locked horns in what was in effect a World Cup quarter-final, with South Africa’s shock defeat to the Netherlands giving both nations a surprise chance to qualify for the World Cup semi-finals.
Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat in Adelaide and had made their way to 73-2 in the 11th over when their captain Shakib walked to the crease.
Shakib was facing leg-spinner Shadab Khan and ran down the wicket to his first delivery that was a low full toss that dipped at the last moment.
Shakib appeared to get an inside edge on the delivery onto his pad, but after a lengthy period of time he was given out lbw on the field before immediately reviewing.
On replay, the TV umpire ruled that there had been no bat involved with the noise on UltraEdge being that of bat against ground. Ball tracking then had the ball hitting the stumps and an aghast Shakib, who was convinced he had hit the ball, was forced to leave the pitch.
The decision was received with controversy online with many fans and journalists believing that Shakib had clearly hit the ball.

The wicket would be the second that Bangladesh lost in two balls as the Tigers failed to capitalise on their promising start and managed to score just 127-8 off their twenty overs, a score that Pakistan chased down comfortably as they won by five wickets with 11 balls to spare.
