T20 World Cup 2022

Watch: Sam Curran outfoxes Mohammad Rizwan, induces chop-on with wobble-seam variation

by Ben Gardner 2 minute read

Watch: Sam Curran gave England a significant early breakthrough in the T20 World Cup final against Pakistan, dismissing Mohammad Rizwan in his second over.

The left-armer has been England’s standout bowler at the T20 World Cup, but he saved perhaps his most important intervention for the final, with Rizwan Pakistan’s most consistent batter.

Despite the threat of rain, the T20 World Cup final at the MCG began as scheduled, with England beginning strongly with the ball. They restricted Pakistan to 16 runs off the first three over, but with Rizwan sweeping Chris Woakes for the first six of the innings and the wicketkeeper’s penchant for big stands with Babar Azam, the lack of a wicket will have had them concerned.

Curran provided relief, enticing Rizwan into an attempted drive with a full, wide ball. The delivery nipped in off the pitch, catching the Pakistan opener’s inside-edge on the way through to the stumps.
