Watch: There was a moment of comedy in the field during England’s innings against India, though Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya weren’t laughing after a bizarre attempted relay throw from Mohammed Shami cost his side overthrows.
India’s T20 World Cup hopes were already slipping away, with Jos Buttler and Alex Hales having put on 84-0 in the first eight overs, but the wheels truly came off after Buttler scooped Pandya behind square on the leg-side.
Shami reeled the ball in easily enough, but then decided to throw the ball to his teammate running in from a distance away. The ball cleared the onrushing fielder, racing away into the deep as Buttler and Hales completed an all-run four.
The expressions on the faces of Pandya and Rohit summed up a tough night for India, defeated by 10 wickets.
