Watch: Litton Das was run out after falling and slipping while attempting a second run two deliveries after the resumption of the India-Bangladesh 2022 T20 World Cup clash following a rain delay.
Das was batting on 59 off 26 deliveries when rain interrupted the Super 12 clash between the two sides. Needing 185 runs for their third win of the tournament, Bangladesh raced to 66 for no loss in seven overs when rain halted play. Shakib Al Hasan’s team were 17 runs above the DLS par score at the point and would have emerged winners had the rain not relented.
However, the showers gave way, with the match resuming 42 minutes later. The revised target for Bangladesh was 151 in 16 overs, leaving Bangladesh with 85 more to win off the last nine overs. Shakib Al Hasan was seen in disagreement with the umpires over the quick restart.
The first ball after resumption saw Das slip as he looked to take a second run off the bowling R Ashwin, with the opener treated for an injury. The second delivery after the break proved catastrophic. Najmul Hossain Shanto flicked Ashwin’s delivery towards deep mid-wicket, and the two batters set off for a run. Shanto wanted the second run, with Das acceding.
But while turning around for the second, opener Das slipped, and the stumble made it tough for him to get back, with even a full-length dive not saving him as KL Rahul hit bulls-eye. Before walking off for a 27-ball 60, Das was furious, directing his anger towards the umpire Marais Erasmus.
Later, Harsha Bhogle, on commentary said, “To give an ide about how wet it is, [India’s] side-arm thrower Raghu is actually running all around the boundary with a brush to clean up people’s shoes as they come to the boundary before they’re afraid they might slip. The outfield is so wet.”
