Watch: Ireland newbie bowls Ben Stokes through bat-pad gap with sharp-seaming beauty

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: 24-year-old Irish seamer Fionn Hand dismissed Ben Stokes with a beauty in his first over of the 2022 T20 World Cup, during the Ireland-England clash in Melbourne.

Hand, playing just his third T20I, had a dream start to his T20 World Cup career, sending back Stokes with his first legitimate delivery in the competition. Coming in to bowl the sixth over of the innings, with England reduced to 28-2 in a run chase of 158, Hand bowled a wide down leg first up, but made a strong comeback, getting a wicket off the re-bowled delivery.

Hand got the ball nip away, which drew Stokes forward as he looked to defend the delivery, before it seamed in, through the batter’s bat-pad gap and onto the middle stump. England’s Test captain had to walk back for six off eight as England fell deeper into trouble.
