England, who are set to lock horns with Pakistan in a seven-match T20I series, will be playing the same opposition on Australian soil as part of their T20 World Cup build-up. Jos Buttler’s troops have not been in great form lately, having lost T20I series to India and South Africa at home.
They have also had to cope with injuries to numerous key players. Jofra Archer is not part of the T20 World Cup squad. Jonny Bairstow, who was initially named but has since suffered an injury, will also not be on the plane to Australia. Chris Woakes and Mark Wood have returned to the fold, though, and that should give England confidence.
Buttler, too, will be looking to rediscover his form. Ben Stokes, who last played a T20 International in March 2021, will also be hoping to be at his best come the tournament. Moeen Ali has also shown patchy form in recent times but has the quality to turn things around quickly.
There are a few exciting youngsters in the squad as well. Phil Salt has done whatever England have asked of him so far in his limited-overs career. Liam Livingstone, meanwhile, is one of the most destructive batters on the planet. There is also a recall for Alex Hales, who last featured for England in 2019.
England’s T20 World Cup warm-up fixture against Pakistan is scheduled for October 17. The match will take place at the Gabba and will begin at 6pm local time.
