Sri Lanka announced their squad on September 16, 2022, five days after winning the Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates. They recalled Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara, both of whom had missed the Asia Cup due to injuries. Four men who were part of the Asia Cup squad – Dinesh Chandimal, Ashen Bandara, Nuwanidu Fernando, and Praveen Jayawickrama – have been named among the standbys.

The Sri Lankan squad boasts of a cohort of all-rounders. Wanindu Hasaranga, their main bowler, is also more than a competent down-the-order hitter, while captain Dasun Shanaka can bat or bowl at any time in the innings. Dhananjaya de Silva and Chamika Karunaratne complete a formidable quartet.

Danushka Gunathilaka, Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, and Bhanuka Rajapaksa – the last two doubling as the wicketkeepers of the side – have expectedly made the cut as batters. The selectors showed faith in Charith Asalanka despite his ordinary show at the Asia Cup. Pramod Madushan, Dilshan Madushanka, and Jeffrey Vandersay will form an impressive attack, along with Kumara, Chameera, and the all-rounders.

Despite their Asia Cup triumph, Sri Lanka will have to play the First Round at the 2022 T20 World Cup. In Group 1, they will play Namibia on October 16, the UAE on October 18, and the Netherlands on October 20, at Kardinia Park in Geelong. Two teams will advance from the group to the next round.
