Last year’s semi-finalists, led by Jos Buttler, will begin their campaign on Saturday, October 22. Eoin Morgan, who was the captain of the side in the 2021 T20 World Cup, retired from international cricket in June this year, with Buttler taking over the responsibility.
England first won the T20 crown in 2010, which was also the last time they laid their hands on the trophy. They have played a total of 38 matches in the T20 World Cup, winning 19 – giving them a win percentage of 51.35.
The side will be without the services of Jonny Bairstow in the competition after he sustained a freak ankle injury during golf. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced Alex Hales as his replacement in the squad. The side will also be without Jofra Archer, who has been out of action since July 2021. He last played an international match for England in February 2021, when he took the field for a T20I against India.
England have been placed in Group 1 in the upcoming event Down Under, along with Afghanistan, Australia and New Zealand. The winners of Group A from the first round and the runners-up from Group B will also be placed in Group 1. The team will play their league games at four venues: Perth Stadium, the MCG, the Gabba and the SCG.
Before the T20 World Cup, England will also play one warm-up match, against Pakistan (October 17).
