A now-deleted tweet attributed the following quote to Hussain, one of the game’s most esteemed broadcasters: “The umpires made some weird decision in favour of India today but maybe we should keep quiet and not upset ICC and BCCI.”

The post quickly garnered over 10,000 likes, prompting Hussain to reply, rubbishing it as a “fake quote” and “definitely not what a great game of cricket like todays deserves”.

“Probably best if you can delete this please,” he said. “it’s fake news and a fake quote and definitely not what a great game of cricket like todays [sic] deserves.”

The tweet was deleted. However, the quote continued to be shared widely on other social media platforms, with some Facebook posts garnering hundreds of thousands of reactions.
