T20 World Cup 2021 venues: Ground details, fixtures and stadium history

The T20 World Cup 2021 is set to begin from October 17 – here are the venue details for all the stages of the ICC tournament.

The seventh edition of the T20 World Cup will be held in UAE and Oman. Although, initially slated to be held in India, the pandemic situation in the country forced the World Cup to be moved to the UAE and Oman.

The World Cup will see participation of 16 countries from around the globe. West Indies are the reigning champions of the T20 World Cup.

Oman Cricket Academy Ground, Muscat

The Oman Cricket Academy Ground also known as Al Amerat cricket stadium, will be one of the stadiums playing hosts for the T20 World Cup during the qualifying stage of the tournament. It has hosted 4 ODIs and 30 T20Is, and has recently been given ICC accreditation to host Test matches.

Dubai International Stadium, Dubai

The Dubai International stadium is the record-holder for hosting the most T20Is, the last of which was the T20 World Cup Qualifier between Netherlands and PNG. The stadium is famous for its ‘Ring of Fire’, the 350 floodlights are fixed on circumference of its round roof. This is said to minimise shadows during play.

Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, Abu Dhabi

Established in 2004, the first ODI in the stadium took place between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in 2006. It is the second-most used venue in T20I format.

Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah

The most prolific of all the T20 World Cup venues in terms of history, Sharjah has hosted 240 men’s ODIs, the most for any venue. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the venue played host to many entertaining tri-series contests.
