Watch: Pakistan’s Babar Azam gave Angelo Mathews a second life, dropping a sitter when the Sri Lanka batter was on 36 during the first innings of the ongoing second Test between the two sides in Galle.

Mathews, playing his 100th Test, got a reprieve on day one of the Galle Test after a mistimed drive was dropped by Babar. The fifth ball of the 52nd over was tossed up on the off stump, which was driven uppishly towards extra cover by Mathews. However, the ball failed to find the gap and fell into the hands of Babar. However, it popped out soon after, leaving him, along with the other fielders, in disbelief.

Mathews, who was batting on 36 off 89 at the time, could not make the most of his chance, as he was sent back by Nauman 17 balls later for the addition of six more runs.

Sri Lanka, who trail the two-match Test series 0-1, were out for 378 in their first innings. In reply, Babar could only make 16 in the second leg, as the visitors lost their first five wickets for 119 runs.
