Watch: “Come on, Chandi, throw your wicket away” – Joe Root’s wish was granted by Dinesh Chandimal immediately on day four of the second Test between England and Sri Lanka.
Standing at first slip, Root’s words were picked up by the stump mic just moments before Chandimal lofted a ball high off the bowling of Jack Leach, with James Anderson taking an excellent catch running back from mid-on.

Root’s sledge was found by many on social media to be reminiscent of Andrew Flintoff’s famous “Mind the windows” line to Tino Best.
