Watch: Quinton de Kock completes lightning-quick leg-side stumping off a seamer to see off Rishabh Pant

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: Wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock affected a quick stumping on the leg-side to dismiss Rishabh Pant during the first ODI between South Africa and India, earning praise for his sharp reflexes.

De Kock, who recently announced his Test retirement, was on his toes in the first ODI, sending back his counterpart Pant with a lightning-quick stumping at the Boland Park on Wednesday. The first ball of the 35th over by Andile Phehlukwayo was sent down the leg side, and Pant missed the delivery completely as he attempted a flick. De Kock smartly collected the ball and whipped off the bails quickly after spotting that Pant had drifted out of the crease. The decision was sent up to the TV umpire, but Pant started walking anyway, having been dismissed for 16 off 22.

The glovework was appreciated by commentator Pommie Mbangwa, as he exclaimed, “Very quick hands! Outstanding stuff that from Quinton de Kock.”

Sarah Taylor, too, praised the effort, replying with ‘clap emoji’ to the video tweet of the dismissal.

India, chasing 297 in the game, were well-placed at 151-2, but lost their next five batters before the score reached 200, eventually losing by 31 runs.
