The first Test between India and South Africa at Centurion beginning on December 26 is expected to be affected by rain — here are the weather updates for SA vs IND, including predictions and daily rain estimation.

India’s practice session on the eve of the Boxing Day Test in Centurion was cancelled due to rain, with the weather expected to play spoilsport during the five days of the game as well. According to Indian journalists in South Africa, there was persistent rain on Sunday evening as well, moments after the visitors finished their training.

SA vs IND weather updates for the Centurion Test

Day one update (10:40 am IST): The predicted chance of rain has increased from 92 per cent on the eve of the first day to 96 per cent on the first day morning. There’s also a 38 per cent chance of thunderstorms. However, according to people in Centurion, up until an hour back, there was no rain despite a dark cloud cover.

Day one: According to AccuWeather, there is a 92 percent chance of rain during day one of the Test, with windy conditions throughout. At 10 am local time (1:30 am IST), when the match is expected to begin, there will be intermittent clouds with 43 percent chance of rain. As the day progresses, the rain is likely to get heavier – from 47 percent at 11 am, it will rise to 51 percent an hour later. From 1 pm till 3 pm, there will be over 60 percent of rain, which will get lighter as the evening progresses.

Day two: The rain is predicted to lessen overnight but day two of the Test (Wednesday, December 27) will see harsh weather again from around 7 am local time. By the start of the Test, there is 66 percent of rain predicted, which will remain steady till around 4 pm.

Day three: Clearer and brighter conditions can be expected on Thursday, with only a two percent chance of rain, according to AccuWeather. A warm day is on the cards, with sparse clouds and plenty of sun and it could be the first uninterrupted day of the game.

Day four: AccuWeather predicts a thunderstorm in the afternoon on Friday. After “times of clouds and sun”, there is likely to be heavy rain along with strong winds by evening.

Day five: There is a 63 percent chance of rain on the last day of the Test match. The day is predicted to begin with a couple of showers and a thunderstorm early in the day, which could mean the outfield is under covers for most parts.
