Ravinda Jadeja was denied David Miller‘s wicket as DRS was unavailable for a brief period during South Africa’s run-chase against India in the third T20I In Johannesburg today (December 14).

Jadeja was bowling the ninth over of the innings when Miller got a thick outside edge while trying to defend a length ball just outside off stump. Jitesh Sharma took a sharp catch behind the stumps and immediately went up in appeal along with Jadeja.

The on-field umpire, Bongani Jele, however, was unmoved. Jadeja, who was also acting as the stand-in captain after Suryakumar Yadav had gone off the field following an ankle injury, thought of going for a review, but couldn’t since DRS was temporarily unavailable.

DRS had become unavailable at the start of the eighth over, presumably due to technical issues, and it came back on at the end of Jadeja’s over, much to India’s disappointment.

Luckily for India, it didn’t cost them much as wickets kept tumbling at the other end. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Donovan Ferreira in the next over, while Jadeja had Andile Phehlukwayo caught and bowled in the eleventh to have South Africa reeling at 82-6.

Kuldeep then finished off the tail, ending up with figures of 5-17, his best in T20Is, as India won the match by a massive 106 runs.

Earlier in the game, India had put up 201 on the board after being asked to bat first. Shubman Gill had another failure with the bat, scoring just eight runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a half-century while captain Suryakumar Yadav scored a record-equalling fourth T20I ton in just his 57th innings.

With the first T20I getting abandoned and the second going to South Africa, the series was drawn at 1-1 as focus will shift to the ODIs, starting December 17.
