Shweta Sehrawat slams 242, break Mithali Raj, Smriti Mandhana’s records, Delhi win one-day match by 400 runs
In a Senior Women’s One Day Trophy match, Shweta Sehrawat smashed 242, breaking Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana’s records.
Batting first at the MECON Stadium in Ranchi, Delhi amassed 455-4 in 50 overs. Opener Shweta Sehrawat top-scored with a 150-ball 242, a knock that included 31 fours and seven sixes.
Sehrawat added 233 for the second wicket with Pratika (101 in 89 balls, eight fours, three sixes) and 178 for the third wicket with Tanisha Singh (67 in 38, nine fours, one six) as Delhi finished on 455-6.
Parunika Sisodia (3-16), Madhu (3-7), and Priya Mishra (3-15) then bowled out Nagaland for only 55 in 24.4 overs, inflicting a 400-run defeat upon them. RR Mane (10) was the only Nagaland batter to reach double figures.
Shweta Sehrawat’s 242 is now the highest score by an Indian woman in organised cricket. She went past Smriti Mandhana’s 224 not out, for Maharashtra Under-19s against Gujarat Under-19s at Vadodara in 2013/14.
In senior cricket, the previous record by an Indian was held by Mithali Raj. Her 214 against England at Taunton in 2002 remained the record individual score in women’s Test cricket until Kiran Baluch made 242 in 2003/04. Raj’s score is still at second place.
The highest recorded score in a national competition in women’s cricket is by Sripali Weerakkody. She was unbeaten on 271 in Kandyan Ladies Cricket Club’s 632-4 (in 50 overs) against Pushpadana Ladies at Kurunegala in the 2007 Sri Lanka Women’s Cricket Limited Overs Tournament.
The highest recorded score in any senior women’s cricket is by Dot Laughton. She remained unbeaten on 390 when YWCA Golds amassed 519 in a South Australia Women’s Cricket Association Premiership match against YWCA Wyverns at Adelaide in 1948/49.
The record for any women’s cricket still belongs to Lizelle Lee, who slammed an astonishing 427 not out as Mpumalanga Under-19s made 690-1 in 50 overs against Kei Under-19s in the 2010/11 Girls National Week in South Africa.
