Thakur struck with the third ball of the fourth over. He pitched an outswinger on the middle stump. Tamil Nadu opener N Jagadeesan, yet to open his account, tried to play across the line and flick it but was undone by the late movement. The ball curved ever so slightly to his left to rap him on his pads.

Sai Sudharsan, on a 15-ball five, was the next to perish in Thakur’s opening spell. Bowling the penultimate ball of the fifth over, Thakur invited Sai Sudharsan into a drive, landing it full and around off. Sai Sudharsan was foxed by the inswing and feathered it to give an easy catch to wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore. Tamil Nadu were reduced to 6-2.

Earlier, on day two, Thakur brought up his maiden first-class ton off 89 balls to help Mumbai rack up 378 in their first innings. His stroke-filled 109 off 105 comprised of 13 fours and four sixes.
