Prithvi Shaw reached his fourth 150-plus score in first-class cricket in 80 innings, getting to the milestone during the ongoing 2023/24 Ranji Trophy clash against Chhatisgarh.

Shaw, who is playing his second professional game after a lengthy knee injury, took little time to get back among the runs, scoring his 13th first-class hundred against Chhatisgarh. Shaw, who plays for Mumbai, opened the innings along with Bhupen Lalwani and made merry, bringing up his ton in only 102 deliveries.

Shaw started aggressively, getting to his fifty in 43 deliveries with two sixes and eight fours as Mumbai raced away after opting to bat first.

He needed only 126 balls for his next 100 runs, hitting 10 more boundaries along with a maximum to announce his comeback in style. He was eventually dismissed for 159 off 185, with Mumbai building to 310-4 at stumps.

Shaw made his comeback against Bengal last week, making 35. He now has three hundreds in his last four knocks, albeit in different formats and spread across six months. He had made 244 and 125* for Northamptonshire in the One-Day Cup in county cricket before being sidelined.

Shaw also managed to take his average past 50 in first-class cricket with his knock for Mumbai. He has played 46 games and is closing in on 4,000 runs in the format. He has a top score of 379, scored against Assam last year.

The 24-year-old’s international career has trailed off after an impressive start due to injuries along with disciplinary and technical issues. Recently, Shaw admitted to Wisden.com that he does not “have friends” and that he hoped to reclaim his spot in the India team soon.

Mumbai are currently on top of the points table in Elite Group B, winning four of five games.
