Watch: Muhammad Huraira became the second-youngest batter from Pakistan to score a triple-century when he achieved the feat during a Quaid-e-Azam clash between Northern and Balochistan.
Huraira, aged 19 years and 239 days, became the second-youngest batter from Pakistan after Javed Miandad to score a triple hundred. Playing in his maiden first-class season for Northern, he has had an impressive start to his career, scoring three hundreds and as many fifties in 10 matches. His triple hundred came against Balochistan at the SBP Stadium in Karachi.
After winning the toss and opting to field first, Northern were right on the money, as they dismissed Balochistan for 305 runs. Though Shan Masood scored 190, nine batters scored less than 20 in the innings, which allowed Northern to take control of the game. In reply, the Northern openers got off to an excellent start, with openers Huraira and Sarmad Bhatti piling on 365 for the first wicket.
Huraira was the more attacking of the two, scoring 40 fours and fours sixes in his knock of 311. He reached his triple hundred off 327 deliveries, which gives a glimpse of how aggressive he was. His knock was filled with creative, attractive strokes, including flamingo shots down the ground, with one leg off the four, ramps over the keeper, some gorgeous drives through the off-side, and an incredible, two-feet-off-the-ground cut shot for four. With the opposition attack including Test leggie Yasir Shah, this was a statement from the teenager.
The youngster, who played for Pakistan in the Under-19 World Cup in 2020, has Pakistan cricketing royalty in his blood: he is Shoaib Malik’s nephew. He is the eighth youngest batter overall to score a triple hundred, after Javed Miandad, Bahir Shah, Wasim Jaffer, Abhinav Mukund, Rishabh Pant, Raqibul Hasan and Frank Worrell.
