After going 1-0 up in the five-match series in the second game following a washout in the first, New Zealand struck back when they restricted Pakistan to 178-4 yesterday (April 21). Opening the batting for the tourists, Tim Robinson and Tim Seifert put on 42 by the fifth ball of the fifth over.
Robinson has had a difficult start to his first international tour previously. He was bowled by Shaheen Shah Afridi off the second of the only two balls possible of the first T20I, before being dismissed by Mohammad Amir for a run-a-ball four in the second.
On this occasion, he reached 28 off 19 balls, hitting five fours in the powerplay. He took two boundaries off Naseem Shah’s first over, first hitting over mid on before hammering a pace-off delivery through backward point. Back-to-back boundaries followed for Robinson off the first two balls of Naseem’s second over, the first again through point and the second lofted over the keeper’s head to the fence.
However, Naseem struck back later in the over. He fired in a brutal yorker, with Robinson back away and exposing all three stumps. The ball clattered into middle stump, removing it from the ground and leaving Robinson to walk back to the dugout.
New Zealand eventually chased down the runs comfortably, Mark Chapman hitting an unbeaten 87 off 42 balls to steer them to a seven-wicket win with ten balls remaining.
