Watch: In the midst of a fiery spell, Naseem Shah found the edge of Kane Williamson on the way through to the keeper twice, but only had one wicket to show for it after a missed review.

Naseem should have had the New Zealand great on the first ball of the 60th over, but had his man not long after, striking in the 64th over.

The Black Caps built a strong platform on the first day, with openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway putting on a century stand. However, with the ball reversing and Naseem operating at high pace, the tourists had a threat to contend with.

The youngster claimed Pakistan’s first wicket, with the ball moving back in to hit Latham on the pad, before Salman Agha got the ball to turn and take Conway’s edge for a well-constructed 122.

That dismissal came between the two Williamson nicks. The first was barely a feather touch, and Pakistan barely appealed despite UltraEdge showing a thin spike. The second was more substantial, with Sarfaraz Ahmed taking a solid catch low down. Naseem, bowling in the channel outside off stump and moving the ball away, tested Williamson and proved too good, sending the former captain on his way for 36.

With Salman striking again soon after, turning the ball back between Daryl Mitchell’s bat and pad, Pakistan came back into the game strongly, slipping from 234-1 to 255-4.

At the time of writing, New Zealand were 284-6, with Tom Blundell on 18 and Ish Sodhi on a single. Naseem’s figures read 2-44.
