Shadab Khan bowled a ripping leg-break to dismiss the in-form Will Young in the fifth and final ODI of Pakistan’s series against New Zealand in Karachi.
Having already secured the series, Pakistan went into the finale in the knowledge that another victory would secure their status as the number one ranked side in the men’s ODI game. Standing in their way was Young, who had been enjoying a decent series for a touring team who have been missing several first choice players.
Young scored 86 in the series opener and looked well set once more. Shadab’s first four overs saw him concede 33 runs but he produced a brilliant delivery to dismiss Young for 87, getting it to turn sharply away from the Black Caps opener.
Young could only get a faint outside edge on the ball on its way through to Mohammad Rizwan behind the stumps who took an excellent catch. The on-air commentators enjoyed the delivery with Sikandar Bakht describing it as the “perfect delivery for a leg-spinner.” His colleague Mark Butcher said: “That’s an absolute beauty, no wonder he was excited about it.”
New Zealand were eventually bowled out for 299 after 49.3 overs with Shaheen Afridi picking up a three-wicket haul.
