Watch: There was an early passage of cut and thrust on the second morning of the first Pakistan-England Test match, with Ben Stokes hitting his first ball for six before being bowled by the final ball of the opening Naseem Shah over.

After an opening day of carnage, England looked to continue in the same vein. Stokes began the day needing 16 runs off five balls to break the world record for the fastest Test fifty, and looked determined to get there with time to spare, swinging Naseem for six mightily after Harry Brook had taken a single first ball.

Naseem responded well when Stokes next attempted a boundary. The England all-rounder went back to cut the final ball of the first over, but was outfoxed, a well-disguised slower ball cramping Stokes for room and hitting leg stump.

The opening day’s frustration perhaps showed, with Naseem aiming a roar in Stokes’ general frustration as he left the field.
