The inaugural edition of the Pakistan Junior League will get underway on October 6. The tournament will feature six teams – the Bahawalpur Royals, the Mardan Warriors, the Gujranwala Giants, the Gwadar Sharks, the Hyderabad Hunters, and the Rawalpindi Raiders. While the cricketers are all teenagers, the teams have been assigned former and current international cricketers like Viv Richards, Shahid Afridi, Shoaib Malik, Imran Tahir, Daren Sammy, and Colin Munro as mentors, as well as seasoned coaches.
In the drafts, the cricketers had been classified into three categories – Elite, Premier, and X-factor. While the squads feature mostly Pakistani Under-19 cricketers, there are overseas recruitments as well, from England, South Africa, the West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Scotland, the USA, Nepal, and Belgium.
The six teams will play in a round-robin league, followed by four Playoff matches. The entire tournament will be played at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, between October 6 and 21, 2022.
