NZ-W vs PAK-W Super Over
by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: With two needed from the last ball in the third women’s ODI between New Zealand-Pakistan in Christchurch, the touring batters failed to run a risky two as the match went into the Super Over on Monday (December 18).

Najiha Alvi and Ghulam Fatima were the batters at the crease in the third ODI when Lea Tahuhu sent down a good-length ball to the latter, who whipped the delivery towards deep square leg. The two players ran a single and were looking for a second before deciding otherwise even though the fielder was yet to throw the ball to the wicketkeeper.

In the Super Over, New Zealand failed to chase down 12 after Pakistan scored 11 off their six balls. The hosts only managed 8-2, as the visitors won their first ODI in New Zealand. Overall, it was also their second win against the side, having previously lost 14 of the 16 ODIs played between Pakistan and New Zealand.

Earlier in the game, Amelia Kerr had top-scored for New Zealand, scoring 77 off 87 balls while batting at No.3. Maddy Green also scored a half-century (65 off 69), helping New Zealand reach 251-8 from their 50 overs.

In response, almost every Pakistan batter contributed, with as many as six of them going past 20. Bismah Maroof was the top-scorer with 68 off 86 balls.

While Pakistan won the Super Over, the match will go down as a tie.
