New Zealand and Sri Lanka will compete in a three-match ODI series beginning March 25. Here are all the live telecast and broadcast details for the NZ vs SL ODI series.
Sri Lanka were whitewashed by New Zealand 2-0 in the Test series and would like to get some wins under their belt on the tour as the three-match ODI series gets underway in Auckland tomorrow (March 25). The first match will be followed by the second one in Christchurch on March 28, and the third one in Hamilton on March31 before the T20I series begins.
This series has a lot riding on it, especially for the visitors as they are looking to secure direct qualification for the ODI World Cup later this year. They will be led by Dasun Shanaka and have a full-strength squad to make life difficult for the Blackcaps, who in turn will be weakened by the absence of some key players who have left for the IPL. They will be led by stand-in captain Tom Latham.
Sri Lanka don’t boast of a great record in ODIs in New Zealand, having won just 16 of their 47 games. The last time they played an ODI series here was four years back, in January 2019, and were whitewashed 3-0. In fact, the last ODI win Sri Lanka registered in New Zealand was way back in 2015. While the records don’t paint a rosy picture, the Sri Lankan team and the fans will take heart from the fact that they have shown signs of progress off late and have all the quality to challenge New Zealand in their own backyard, at least on paper.
