Against South Africa at Mount Maunganui, Rachin Ravindra joined the list of batters who converted their maiden Test hundreds into double centuries.

On day one at the Bay Oval, Rachin Ravindra made a maiden Test hundred and, with Kane Williamson, added a record third-wicket stand for New Zealand against South Africa.

Williamson fell for 118 on day two, but Ravindra – unbeaten 118 overnight – continued, until he was bowled by debutant South African captain Neil Brand, who finished with 6-119.

This is now the 12th-highest maiden Test hundred in the history of Test cricket. Three of the 11 entries above Ravindra are triple-hundreds. Ravindra eclipsed the New Zealand record of 214, held by Matthew Sinclair on his Test debut, against the West Indies at Wellington in 1999/00.
