England’s Jack Leach has been admitted to hospital after contracting gastroenteritis.
Leach is reported to have fallen ill on the second morning of day two of the Hamilton Test between England and New Zealand. England have stated that Leach is likely to stay in hospital overnight.
According to the NHS, gastroenteritis is “a very common condition that causes diarrhoea and vomiting” which usually passes by itself within a week.
Leach was omitted from the playing XI for the second Test of the tour at Seddon Park as England opted for a five-man pace attack with no specialist spinner, the first time they have done so for seven years. He was replaced in the side by Chris Woakes.
