Watch Jimmy Neesham’s football skills to run out Tamim Iqbal

Neesham run out
by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham used his football skills to run out Bangladesh’s Tamim Iqbal in the second ODI between the two sides at the Hagley Oval.

Off the second ball of the 31st over, Mushfiqur Rahim pushed a delivery from Neesham next to the pitch and set off for a quick single. His partner, Tamim Iqbal, on 73, rushed to cover his ground and reach the other end. Neesham, in his follow-through, ran to the other side, but instead of picking the ball and trying to break the stumps, he decided to put his left foot to use, and run the non-striker out.

In one swift motion, Neesham used the inside of his foot to tap the ball towards the stumps, even though, from that angle, he had only one stick to aim at. It ended with a bulls-eye.

The kick-run-out isn’t too common in cricket, but there have been successful instances of it in the past, most notably by Australia’s Mitchell Johnson, who used the mode multiple times.
