Jaiswal hits five fours in one over

Watch: Yashasvi Jaiswal crunched five fours off the opening over of Rajasthan Royals’ match against Delhi Capitals today (April 8), racing to another IPL half-century.

Opening the innings after Delhi Capitals elected to field first, Jaiswal smacked a boundary off his first delivery from Khaleel Ahmed. Sitting back in his crease, he pulled a short of a length ball outside off over midwicket’s head and down to the rope to get things going.

Khaleel bowled in the same area with his next delivery, with Jaiswal opting to play through the off side this time. He played the ball late and cut behind square, bisecting the point and slip fielder. As the ball flew down to Mukesh Kumar on the third-man boundary, it bounced low through his hands and over the rope.

Jaiswal made it a hat-trick of fours to start the match from the next delivery. This time, he drove down the ground to another wide of off-stump ball from Khaleel.

“We’ve seen everything off three deliveries!” Exclaimed the commentator. “A pull, a cut and a glorious drive off the blade of Yashasvi Jaiswal.”

His progress was slightly checked next ball as he played out a dot, driving once more but finding the cover fielder on the ring.

But, the left-hander was back on it for the last two balls of the over, crashing two more fours in a rollicking start to Rajasthan’s innings. The first was whacked over Jos Buttler’s head at the non-striker’s end, bouncing quickly down to the straight boundary. He went back through the offside for Khaleel’s final delivery, however, playing late once more to flick over short third man.

That final shot took Jaiswal to 20 off the over, so far the most expensive in IPL 2023. He went on to register his second fifty of the competitions so far, having also hit a half-century in Rajasthan Royal’s opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. His milestone today came off 25 balls before he was out to Mukesh Kumar for 60.
