Watch: Ruturaj Gaikwad blasted an incredible set of three consecutive sixes off Kuldeep Yadav as Chennai Super Kings remained in complete control against Delhi Capitals in today’s IPL 2023 match.

The opening partnership between Gaikwad and Devon Conway has proved itself invaluable yet again for Chennai as they put together an impressive display of power hitting from the off.

Until his dismissal, Gaikwad made rapid progress, especially in the 12th over, when he smashed three back-to-back sixes from Kuldeep. Having brought up his half century earlier in the game, Gaikwad ended the over on 70 off 42 deliveries.

The first six was over long-off after Kuldeep bowled in the slot on off stump. The second was an even bigger hit: Gaikwad moved his feet out of the way and smashed the ball wide of long-on. The third six went straight back over Kuldeep’s head and sailed with vigour over the boundary rope.

Gaikwad was eventually dismissed in the 15th over as he tried to heave a slower delivery from Chetan Sakariya to square leg and was taken in the deep by Rilee Rossouw for a 50-ball 79. Conway made 87 in 52 balls as Chennai set Delhi Capitals a target of 224.

The two opening batters – Conway (600) and Gaikwad (506) – are Chennai’s leading run scorers for the tournament. These valuable runs at the top of the order have helped Chennai stay in a commanding position. They are second in the table at this point.
